"Government Unveils Ambitious Strategy to Fortify National Cybersecurity Defenses"

The Government’s plan to enhance cybersecurity has been unveiled in the Mid-Term Review of the National Cyber Security Strategy 2019-2024. This strategy outlines 18 new actions that will be implemented over the course of its duration.

To tackle the shortage of skilled professionals in the field, the plan includes measures to support the growth of the cybersecurity industry in Ireland. The Government will invest in strengthening the capabilities of the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), particularly in monitoring and responding to cybersecurity incidents and emerging threats like ransomware.

Furthermore, the plan aims to expand the support provided by the NCSC to a wider range of entities, including small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and other stakeholders.

In addition to these efforts, the Mid-Term Review emphasizes Ireland’s active participation in cybersecurity discussions both within the European Union and on an international level.

Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications, Eamon Ryan, highlighted the importance of network and information system security for Ireland’s prosperity, public and private services, and overall security.

Minister of State at the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications, Ossian Smyth, expressed confidence in the progress made so far in implementing the strategy. He believes that these measures will bolster Ireland’s security, resilience, and capacity, safeguarding the country’s digital transition against cyber threats.
