The Indonesian government is gearing up to revise the Cybersecurity and Resilience (RUU KKS) bill, with plans to introduce penalties for platforms that do not adequately protect their cybersecurity. Deputy Head of the National Cyber and Encryption Agency (BSSN), Rachmad Wibowo, revealed this information at the Indonesia Digital Forum on Thursday, May 15, 2025.
Rachmad mentioned that the proposed bill is currently in the harmonization process at the Ministry of Law, with a focus on enhancing cybersecurity in various aspects such as infrastructure, users, and technology. The government aims to finalize the bill soon and conduct focus group discussions for proper socialization.
The Cybersecurity and Resilience Bill is a key priority in the government’s National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) 2025-2029. Head of BSSN, Commissioner General Putu Jayan Danu Putra, emphasized the need for comprehensive regulations to govern cybersecurity in Indonesia, highlighting the importance of building public trust in digital infrastructure.
While Indonesia already has two Presidential Regulations supporting cybersecurity governance, BSSN is pushing for the passage of the new bill to strengthen national security and enhance cybersecurity measures. Rachmad stressed that cybersecurity is a shared responsibility and called for collaboration from all parties to support the bill.
In conclusion, the government is taking steps to bolster cybersecurity in Indonesia, with a focus on legislation to address cyber threats and build public confidence in digital infrastructure.
