Ballistic Ventures, a venture capital firm specializing in cybersecurity startups, has filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to raise $300 million for a new fund. This comes over a year after the firm launched its first fund of the same amount in May 2022. The San Francisco-based firm, co-founded by Ted Schlein, Barmak Meftah, Jake Seid, Roger Thornton, and Kevin Mandia, aims to support early-stage cybersecurity and cyber-related startups. Ballistic Ventures has already backed twelve startups and has a track record of founding, operating, and funding over 90 cybersecurity firms. Recently, the firm appointed former U.S. National Cyber Director Chris Inglis and former chief of staff for the U.S. cybersecurity agency CISA, Kiersten Todt, as advisors. Despite a decrease in investment in cybersecurity startups this year, investors remain optimistic about the growth potential in this sector, particularly with advancements in generative AI and cloud deployments.
