Law firm warns of growing cybersecurity threat from AI advancementsBusinesses in Belfast are being warned about the increasing threat of cyberattacks as artificial intelligence (AI) continues to rise. According to multinational law firm Pinsent Masons, ransomware attacks account for almost six in 10 attacks on businesses, with financial firms being the primary target.

Laura Gillespie, a partner at Pinsent Masons, highlighted the growing sophistication and volume of cyberattacks over the past year. She emphasized the importance of developing cyber readiness programs to combat these threats.

A recent report by the law firm revealed new trends in cyberattacks, including the fragmentation of groups targeting businesses’ systems. Ms. Gillespie stressed the need for organizations to prioritize cybersecurity in 2024, especially with the increasing role of AI in cyber defense.

While cybercriminals are constantly evolving their tactics, AI can also be used to identify and defend against these attacks. The EU Network and Information Systems Directive aims to enhance security measures across member states, but uncertainties remain in the UK regarding proposed changes to security regulations.

As businesses navigate the evolving landscape of cybersecurity, it is crucial for them to stay vigilant and prioritize measures to protect their sensitive information from cyber threats.
