Protecting Agency Communication Infrastructure
Ensuring the security of communication infrastructure, which includes cell towers and networks that connect our devices, is a top priority for government and technology organizations. Encryption and other security measures are key in safeguarding these vital systems.
With the increasing reliance on mobile technology, concerns about security have understandably grown. Defending a network that includes wireless communication signals presents unique challenges that require constant vigilance.
Monitoring the interactions between signals and the physical environment is crucial in maintaining a secure system. Just like leaving a back door unlocked while on vacation, overlooking potential vulnerabilities can leave a network exposed to threats.
Our cybersecurity project, Device-level Anomaly fRamEwork (DARE), focuses on analyzing signals from devices using a commercial-grade telecommunication network. By studying signal behavior under various cybersecurity scenarios, we aim to detect any unusual activities that may indicate a compromise.
Our multidisciplinary team, comprised of experts in wireless communications, cybersecurity, and applied mathematics, collaborates to enhance network security. By bringing diverse talents and perspectives to the table, we are better equipped to tackle significant scientific challenges and develop innovative solutions.
It is essential for scientists from all backgrounds to contribute to cybersecurity efforts, as diverse groups are more likely to develop solutions that benefit a wide range of communities. By embracing diversity in scientific research, we can create a more secure and inclusive society.
