The cybersecurity industry is buzzing about the potential of AI to enhance security strategies. Many companies are incorporating AI into their products, but how many are leveraging AI within their own operations?
Dilip Bachwani, Chief Technology Officer at Qualys, recently sat down with Enterprise Times editor Ian Murphy to discuss cloud and product evolution at Qualys, shedding light on how the company is harnessing AI to advance cybersecurity.
When Bachwani joined Qualys in 2014, the company had 600 employees, with 250 in the engineering division. Fast forward a decade, and Qualys now boasts a team of 2,300, with 1,000 engineers under Bachwani’s leadership.
Qualys initially focused on vulnerability management, compliance, and web application scanning. Recognizing the need for a scalable security platform, Bachwani spearheaded the development of a unified platform that could adapt to customers’ evolving needs.
By embracing a cloud-native architecture and transitioning from a monolithic codebase to a network of microservices, Qualys has enhanced its platform’s agility and customer visibility. With a data lake housing petabytes of anonymized security signals, Qualys is leveraging AI techniques like machine learning and deep learning to derive powerful insights that traditional solutions cannot provide.
Bachwani is driving an AI-first approach within Qualys’ engineering workflows, empowering teams to explore AI/ML use cases and refine models using automated pipelines. By deploying large language models (LLMs) tailored to specific engineering domains, Qualys aims to streamline code generation and enhance solution quality.
Qualys is also researching how to train generative models on secure codebases to improve the reliability of AI-generated solutions. Bachwani envisions AI transforming not only how Qualys secures enterprises but also how its engineers operate.
As Qualys pioneers AI integration in cybersecurity, the industry watches closely to see how this innovative approach will revolutionize security practices. If successful, Qualys will demonstrate AI’s potential to reshape cybersecurity and beyond, proving that AI is more than just a buzzword in the industry.
