The cybersecurity landscape is constantly changing, with more sophisticated attacks being launched against organizations every day. Despite this, business leaders are still not fully grasping the importance of keeping their systems secure.
At a recent roundtable hosted by Splunk, cybersecurity experts from various industries discussed how the motivation behind attacks remains the same – financial gain. Simon Viney, cybersecurity financial services sector lead at BAE Systems Digital Intelligence, emphasized that attackers are persistent and will continue their efforts. He noted that while new groups may emerge and law enforcement may have some successes, the motivation for cyberattacks remains unchanged.
Mark Woods, chief technical advisor for EMEA at Splunk, highlighted that despite the evolving threats, the targets remain consistent. Whether it’s compromised emails or vulnerabilities in the supply chain, some things will always be at risk. Woods emphasized that common compromises often involve business emails or low-level systems being compromised, extortion attempts, or supply chain disruptions.
As organizations navigate the ever-changing cyberthreat landscape, it is crucial for business leaders to prioritize cybersecurity and take proactive measures to protect their systems and data.
