"Lack of Cyber Hygiene Exposed in Recent Report on Irish Consumers"

Lack of Cyber Hygiene Exposed in Recent Report on Irish ConsumersKyndryl’s Chris Davis sheds light on recent report revealing Irish consumer cybersecurity trends, showing a rise in attacks and inefficient practices.

Last week, Kyndryl, a leading IT infrastructure services provider, released new research uncovering cybersecurity trends impacting Irish consumers. The study found that one in five respondents had experienced a cyberattack or online fraud in the past year, with more than one in three households falling victim to cybercrime.

The research, conducted by 3Gem Research and Insights through a survey of 1,000 adults in Ireland, builds on Kyndryl’s Readiness Report, emphasizing the importance of cybersecurity awareness and proactive behaviors among individuals.

Chris Davis, managing director of Kyndryl Ireland, emphasized the need for public education and awareness to combat cyber threats in today’s digital landscape. The report also highlighted concerning trends in password practices, with nearly half of respondents using the same password across multiple accounts.

Davis stressed the importance of adopting secure practices, such as using password managers and alternative authentication methods like biometrics. The report also revealed risky behaviors like using public Wi-Fi for sensitive activities, which Davis warned could lead to data interception and financial loss.

Surprisingly, the study found a disconnect between consumer expectations of data protection from service providers and their own security practices. While consumers expect organizations to safeguard their data, many neglect basic security measures like two-factor authentication.

Davis pointed out the need for better education and intuitive security solutions to bridge this gap. The report also highlighted differing opinions on who should lead cybersecurity education, with suggestions for collaboration between businesses, universities, and governments to enhance digital literacy and cybersecurity awareness.
