Microsoft has recently expanded its AI-powered cybersecurity platform, Security Copilot, with the addition of new agentic AI tools. These tools aim to assist organizations in combating increasing threats and managing the complexity of cloud and AI security.
The update to Microsoft Security Copilot introduces 11 AI-powered agents that automate tasks such as phishing detection, data protection, vulnerability management, and threat analysis. This move highlights Microsoft’s strategy of using AI not only for protection but also as a frontline defense against sophisticated cyber attacks.
Vasu Jakkal, corporate vice president for Microsoft’s Security Group, emphasized the importance of agent-based AI security in light of the growing number of cyber attacks. The new agents, developed both in-house and by security partners like OneTrust, Aviatrix, and Tanium, will be available for preview starting April 2025.
Blake Brannon, chief product and strategy officer at OneTrust, praised the agentic approach to privacy and highlighted how autonomous AI agents can enhance privacy operations. The new tools include a Phishing Triage Agent in Microsoft Defender, a Conditional Access Optimization Agent, and an AI-powered Threat Intelligence Briefing Agent tailored to each organization’s risk profile.
Microsoft is also extending its AI security posture management across multiple clouds and models to address the rise of “shadow AI” within organizations. New safeguards include browser-based data loss prevention tools and enhanced phishing protection in Microsoft Teams.
