Diogo Jota Happy with Liverpool’s Pre-Season Finale

Liverpool forward Diogo Jota expressed his satisfaction with the positive signs from the team’s pre-season, although he believes there is still room for improvement.

The Reds concluded their preparations for the upcoming Premier League season with a 3-1 victory over SV Darmstadt 98. The match ended on a high note with an audacious flick from Luis Diaz.

Mohamed Salah and Jota capitalized on mistakes made by the Bundesliga side, scoring two goals within the first eight minutes at Deepdale.

A defensive lapse allowed Darmstadt to score their first goal in five pre-season friendlies, but Jota emphasized the team’s focus on improving their defensive play. “We’re always wanting to play intense football, that’s key and that’s where we want to improve,” he said. “We showed offensively we are good, we’ve scored goals but we also conceded some. Today was only one, but we always want to improve that as well because if we don’t concede, we’re closer to winning.”

Looking ahead to the season opener against Chelsea on Sunday, Jota acknowledged the challenge but expressed confidence in Liverpool’s ability to perform. “They’ve got a new manager and will start from scratch, they can be dangerous, but we always know that Stamford Bridge is not easy at all, so it’s a great start to the Premier League,” he said.

Jurgen Klopp has a wealth of attacking options at his disposal, and Jota sees the competition as a positive factor. “Competition is always good, we push ourselves to the limit and it’s good for us because we have options,” he explained. “We will have loads of games and we’ll need everyone, so it’s helpful it is like that.”
