Agent Claims Leeds United Blocked Wilfried Gnonto’s Transfer to Everton
The agent representing Leeds United winger Wilfried Gnonto has accused the club of obstructing a potential transfer to Everton.
Gnonto, who is an Italy international, has been the subject of ongoing interest from Everton throughout the summer. Despite two previous bids being rejected for the forward, Everton remains keen on acquiring his services.
Leeds, however, have shown a strong determination to retain Gnonto at Elland Road. The 19-year-old has taken matters into his own hands by making himself unavailable for multiple matches this season in an attempt to force a move. Last week, he officially submitted a transfer request.
Despite facing abuse from supporters and training separately from the first-team squad, Leeds remains resolute in their decision not to sell the talented Azzurri youngster. The club released an official statement reaffirming their stance.
Now, Gnonto’s representative, Claudio Vigorelli, has entered the fray. In a radio interview with Radio Sportiva (h/t LeedsLive), Vigorelli accused Leeds of blocking requests from interested Premier League clubs.
“The situation is complicated,” Vigorelli stated. “Leeds are blocking the requests we have in the Premier League.”
Everton is eager to bolster their attacking options after struggling in front of goal for much of the previous campaign. The team has also failed to score in their first two games of the new season, suffering defeats against Fulham and Aston Villa. Furthermore, they lost Dominic Calvert-Lewin to injury once again during the match against Villa Park on Sunday.
During this summer transfer window, Everton has already added Youssef Chermiti, Arnaut Danjuma, Jack Harrison, and Ashley Young to their squad. They have also made an offer for Southampton striker Che Adams.
