FNB offers Energy Bounce Back loans for businesses

FNB Offers Loans for Backup Energy Solutions to Businesses

In light of the looming Stage 5 loadshedding in South Africa, FNB has announced that businesses can now apply for loans of up to R10 million to purchase backup energy solutions. The bank has also stated that individuals will be able to take advantage of this offer before the end of the year. To be eligible for the loan, businesses must have a maximum turnover of R300 million per annum.

The Energy Bounce Back Loan Guarantee Scheme, introduced by the National Treasury earlier this year, allows businesses to access funding for alternative energy sources. After careful consideration, these loans became available in August.

According to Treasury, the aim of the Energy Bounce Back Loan Guarantee Scheme is to incentivize the generation of an additional 1000MW of power through rooftop photovoltaic solar over the next 12 months. This initiative aims to help small businesses and households mitigate the effects of loadshedding.

FNB’s CEO, Jacques Celliers, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to support customers with the National Treasury EBB loan guarantee scheme. He emphasized that energy security remains a significant challenge for individuals, families, and businesses. FNB aims to assist customers in meeting their day-to-day requirements and building resilience against energy challenges.

Businesses interested in the loan scheme will need to meet specific criteria, including a credit and risk evaluation conducted by the bank. The loan amounts range from a minimum of R10,000 to a maximum of R10 million and are exclusively designated for backup energy solutions. It’s important to note that the loan cannot be used to pay back existing debt.

For individuals, FNB offers an FNB Personal Loan ranging from R3,000 to R300,000 at a personalized interest rate. Once customers inform FNB that the loan is intended for backup power solutions, the interest rate is lowered to prime (11.75 percent) plus one percent. The loan for individuals is expected to be available before the end of the year.

While FNB provides backup energy solutions through its mobile app, it is advisable to explore other options before making a purchase.
