Ros Expands Opencast's Cyber Security Capabilities with New InitiativesOpencast Appoints Ros Grindrod as Head of Security Services

Opencast, an independent tech consultancy, has recently welcomed Ros Grindrod as their new head of security services. With her expertise, Opencast aims to enhance data security practices, ensure regulatory compliance, and strengthen protection against potential cyber attacks.

Ros Grindrod joins Opencast from LRQA Nettitude, a global cyber security service provider, where she served as the virtual chief information security officer (VCISO). She expressed her excitement about joining Opencast and highlighted the company’s commitment to addressing digital transformation challenges. Opencast created this new role specifically for her, demonstrating their dedication to cybersecurity both internally and for their clients.

Originally from Gloucestershire, Ros has always been passionate about technology. She even built her own HTML website at the age of 10 using an old iMac. After completing a chemistry degree at the University of Bristol, she initially pursued a career in auditing at Deloitte, a global professional services company. However, she later transitioned to Deloitte’s cyber security team, where she worked on multi-million pound projects involving ethical hacking, threat modeling, and testing online security systems. Ros then joined ZDL, a managed services consultancy, before moving on to LRQA Nettitude as an information security consultant and eventually becoming the VCISO.

Ros recently relocated to the south east and joined Opencast this autumn to further strengthen the company’s presence in London. She was impressed by Opencast’s mission and vision statements, particularly their commitment to social impact and pursuit of B Corp status. Ros has been collaborating with Stef Monaco, Opencast’s head of social impact, on their B Corp application, which includes internal security as a crucial aspect. She is also actively involved in spreading awareness about cyber security, having coordinated Opencast’s participation in an EmPower Cyber event organized by the government’s National Cyber Security Centre and speaking at a cyber conference on AI in security in Bristol.

Ros’s primary focus at Opencast is to enhance their own defenses against potential cyber attacks and provide advisory and support services to clients regarding their security. She emphasizes the importance of understanding the risks associated with online breaches and non-compliance with GDPR, as they can significantly impact businesses’ reputation and financial stability. Ros believes that adopting a “secure by design” approach, where security is integrated into systems and processes from the start, is crucial. She aims to ensure that everyone on the team comprehends the concepts, dangers, and challenges related to cybersecurity.

Lee Foster, Opencast’s chief technology officer, warmly welcomes Ros to the team, acknowledging her talent, experience, and knowledge. With confidential data being a significant part of Opencast’s work for clients, Lee emphasizes the need for constant vigilance and a proactive, risk-based approach to security. With Ros leading their security efforts, Opencast and their clients can have the assurance they need.
