T-Mobile's 5G Backup Internet Service Expanded with Increased Data AllowanceT-Mobile Offers More Data Passes for Backup Internet Plans

T-Mobile has introduced new perks for customers utilizing its Home Internet Backup and Small Business Internet Backup plans. These plans provide additional Wi-Fi access during outages caused by a primary Internet Service Provider (ISP).

The company’s backup internet plans now include three extra 130GB data passes per year on top of the existing 130GB of 5G data provided monthly. These bonus data passes, valid for three days or until the data is used up, aim to offer customers extended Wi-Fi connectivity during prolonged outages. If a customer’s primary ISP experiences a longer outage than the plans cover, they can activate one of their complimentary data passes to maintain internet access. With 130GB of data, users could potentially last about a week if they are conservative with their usage during an outage. However, depending on the location, outages may be infrequent, allowing users to carry on with their activities as if there were no interruption.

The Home Internet Backup and Small Business Internet Backup plans are priced at $20 per month with AutoPay. This fee includes the monthly data allowance, the three free data passes, and a 5G gateway without a monthly equipment charge. The plans also boast a quick and simple setup process, enabling customers to switch to T-Mobile 5G internet in under 15 minutes. Additionally, T-Mobile is offering a limited-time promotion of a 50% discount on the Nimble Champ Pro 20k 65W Portable Power battery pack. This battery pack can power the 5G gateway for up to seven hours, ensuring continuous internet connectivity even during power outages.

These plans cater primarily to individuals and businesses seeking to maintain high-speed land-based internet while also having a seamless 5G backup solution in case of downtime. T-Mobile’s announcement references an independent analysis of broadband measurements conducted nationwide from June to October 2023 and 2024, which indicates a 28% year-over-year increase in cable outages. It is worth noting that some land-based internet services may still function during power outages if the modem and router are powered by a UPS or backup battery.
