Confirmed: Fabinho's departure and latest update on Mbappe - Liverpool transfer news

Klopp Sets the Record Straight on Mbappe Rumors

Jurgen Klopp has addressed the ongoing speculation surrounding Liverpool’s potential signing of Kylian Mbappe, revealing that he and his staff find the rumors amusing.

Mbappe, who made a £165.7million transfer to PSG in 2017 after initially joining on loan from Monaco, has been in impressive form, scoring 212 goals in 260 games for the club. However, last month, the forward was informed by PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi that he must sign a new contract if he wishes to remain at Princes Park this summer.

Despite this, the 24-year-old has made it clear that he will not extend his contract beyond 2024, prompting PSG to consider selling the World Cup winner rather than risk losing him on a free transfer to Real Madrid next year.

A recent report suggested that Liverpool was in talks with PSG regarding a potential loan move for Mbappe, with the Reds allegedly offering a one-year deal. However, Klopp swiftly dismissed these claims, citing unfavorable financial conditions and stating that unless he is surprised by higher-ups, a deal is highly unlikely.

“We find it quite amusing,” Klopp told Sky Germany. “I must admit that I think he’s an exceptional player, but the financial circumstances simply don’t align with our club.”

“I don’t want to spoil the fun, but as far as I know, there’s nothing to it. However, it’s always possible that someone else within the club is plotting something and wants to surprise me, although that hasn’t happened in my eight years here. It would be a first,” Klopp added.
