Attention Apple enthusiasts and tech collectors! A vintage Apple computer, signed by none other than Steve Wozniak, is up for auction. This iconic Apple-1 computer kickstarted the company that recently reached a staggering $3 trillion market value. Now, it can be yours.
The fully restored Apple-1 comes with a custom-built case and a built-in keyboard. Originally sold for around $666, this piece of tech history is expected to fetch around $200,000 at the auction, which runs until August 24th. Last year, an Apple-1 prototype sold for nearly $700,000, highlighting the immense value collectors place on these early computers.
Only about 200 Apple-1 computers were manufactured in Steve Jobs’ garage in California between 1976 and 1977. Of those, approximately 175 were sold. According to RR Auction’s Executive Vice President Bobby Livingston, this computer is the legendary one that launched Apple into the tech stratosphere.
Interestingly, the Apple-1 was one of the first personal computers that didn’t require soldering by the purchaser. Paul Terrell, owner of The Byte Shop in California, agreed to buy 50 fully assembled Apple-1 computers from Jobs, paving the way for the personal computing revolution.
The computer up for auction bears Wozniak’s signature, making it even more desirable for collectors. Acquired by the current owner in 1980 at a computer hobbyist show in Massachusetts, this Apple-1 was used throughout the 1980s and has now been brought back to life by Apple expert Corey Cohen.
But that’s not all! The auction also includes an Apple company check signed by both Jobs and Wozniak themselves. Dated March 19, 1976, this check for $116.97 was likely linked to the production of the first Apple-1 computers. Early bidding has already surpassed the expected price of $50,000.
So, if you’re a fan of Apple’s rich history or simply a tech aficionado, don’t miss this opportunity to own a piece of computing history. Place your bids and get ready to make this vintage Apple computer yours.
