Sean Dyche Acknowledges Everton Squad Issues as Changes Await
Sean Dyche has openly admitted that he needs to address Everton’s problems with the players he currently has at his disposal.
The Blues’ frustrating season opener against Fulham highlighted ongoing issues that plagued them during last year’s battle against relegation.
In the 1-0 defeat, Dyche fielded two new signings, Ashley Young starting and Arnaut Danjuma coming on as a second-half substitute. Youssef Chermiti, who recently joined from Sporting in Portugal, was not yet fit to play.
However, the failure to convert clear chances and the thinness of the squad, compounded by an injury to Dwight McNeil and Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s ongoing rehabilitation, haunted Everton in their narrow loss to Fulham.
Despite having 19 attempts, with nine on target, Everton still failed to find the back of the net. Dyche did find a positive in the sheer number of opportunities created during the match.
He stated, “I thought we played well. I saw many of the qualities we expect from these players, especially in the first half where we limited Fulham’s chances and created nine or ten of our own, five of which were of high quality.”
“When that kind of performance comes together, it’s encouraging. However, we need to score goals. In the second half, we allowed a couple of easier chances against us, but we remained on the offensive, still seeking to score.”
