Tsimikas Excited for Opportunity in Liverpool Starting XI
Kostas Tsimikas is eagerly anticipating his chance to shine in the Liverpool starting lineup, although he can’t help but feel a bit bittersweet about how it has come about.
Andy Robertson has been the preferred left-back for the Reds, keeping Tsimikas on the sidelines since his arrival as competition for the Scotland international in the summer of 2020. As a result, Tsimikas made only his 19th start in the Premier League during last weekend’s victorious Merseyside derby against Everton.
However, with Robertson now facing a three-month absence due to shoulder surgery after an injury on international duty, Tsimikas is poised for an extended run in Jurgen Klopp’s starting lineup.
“Whenever I get the chance to play, I see it as a huge opportunity,” he shared with Sky Sports. “But I didn’t expect Andy to get injured.
“When they informed me and expected me to be happy, I couldn’t be, because Andy and I are not only good friends but also teammates.
“Of course, we need each other. Neither of us can play every single game because there are so many matches.
“Rhythm is crucial for a football player. Until now, I played a game and then had to rest before playing again. This routine didn’t contribute much to my rhythm.
“Nevertheless, I always strive to work even harder in training to maintain my fitness. I believe that now, with more consistent game time, my rhythm will improve, and I’ll be even more prepared and fit.”
