NordVPN Enhances Threat Protection Service to Include Windows 10 Users

In a welcome move for Windows 10 users, NordVPN has announced an update to its Threat Protection service. The latest update now offers the ability to automatically scan all installed applications for bugs or vulnerabilities. This update is not only compatible with Windows 11 but also fully supports Windows 10, ensuring that even users with older machines are protected.

If any suspicious activity is detected by Threat Protection, both Windows 10 and Windows 11 users will receive automatic notifications, urging them to check for updates that will block any potential threats.

NordVPN explains, “After receiving a vulnerability detection alert about a software security loophole, a user should update the susceptible app immediately. If there’s no update notification, cybersecurity experts advise visiting the developer’s website and searching for the latest version of the app. Users should be cautious of possible cyber dangers if the software developer doesn’t offer security patches to fix the vulnerability.”

NordVPN’s vulnerability detection feature scans approximately 150 million applications daily and identifies vulnerabilities in around 100 thousand applications used by Windows users.

The upgrade to this enhanced service is being provided free of charge to all NordVPN subscribers.

Vykintas Maknickas, Head of Product Strategy at NordVPN, elaborated on the new feature, stating, “The vulnerability detection feature automatically checks applications for known security flaws that hackers may exploit to gain unauthorized access to devices and sensitive information. If vulnerability detection identifies an open-to-attack app on a computer, it immediately sends the user a notification so they can take action to protect their data and device.”

In related news, Windows 10 users are reminded that support for the operating system will end in 2025. This means that in order to receive new features and security updates, users will need to upgrade to Windows 11. Microsoft emphasizes the importance of upgrading to a supported version of Windows, stating, “Once a Microsoft operating system (OS) reaches the end of support, customers will no longer receive technical assistance, software updates, or security fixes.” Microsoft recommends considering a new device capable of running Windows 11 for a seamless transition and an enhanced user experience.
