CRN Reports NovaStor's Release of Backup App for Small Businesses

Simi Valley-based company, NovaStor, is set to release version 5.1 of its NovaNet-WEB online backup software by the end of this month. The software is specifically designed to safeguard the data of small businesses with five to 100 users. NovaStor CEO, Peter Means, emphasized the importance of providing affordable backup solutions for micro businesses, stating that they have the same backup needs as larger companies but cannot afford the high costs associated with enterprise-level solutions. Means also clarified that NovaStor’s intention is not to replace Veritas, but rather to cater to customers who do not already have existing software.

The upcoming version of NovaNet-WEB boasts improved backup and recovery performance compared to previous iterations. Additionally, it introduces virtual tape environments and virtual tape rotations to enhance its disk-to-disk backup capabilities. NovaStor CTO, Chris Harvey, highlighted the inclusion of firewall support, backup scheduling, interactive backup modes, customizable backup sets, file selections, and filters as notable features of the software.

Moreover, NovaNet-WEB can be utilized as a service by service providers seeking to offer online backup and restore capabilities to small businesses. James Schaffer, CEO of Global Data Vault, a Colorado-based provider of such services, praised NovaStor for its software-focused approach and outstanding technology. Schaffer commended NovaStor’s commitment to working with channel partners and involving them in feature tests and bug tests for the SMB space. He also mentioned that the browser-based data restoration feature in NovaNet-WEB is particularly beneficial for traveling sales representatives and disaster recovery scenarios.

While the browser-based capability is still in beta testing, Global Data Vault has already implemented it for their customers. NovaNet-WEB is available in different user packages ranging from five to 100 users, with prices starting at $550 and going up to $8,716.
