A new series of data-backup and disaster-recovery appliances has been unveiled by a company this week, offering a turnkey solution that combines a server, hard-drive cache, tape library, and the Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) software application.
According to Kevin Hoffman, vice president of sales at Hoffman Technologies, this product brings enterprise-level storage support with full TSM integration to smaller businesses. Hoffman noted that typical solutions can cost around $50,000 once all the necessary components are integrated, but with this fully integrated solution, perceptions are expected to change.
Ellen Rome, vice president of channel sales and marketing at StorServer, mentioned that while the company has offered similar appliances in the past, the latest family incorporates a Sony tape library using AIT drive technology, specifically aimed at small businesses.
The Y-series solution includes a 4U rack-mount server with hard-disk-based storage and a 2U Sony AIT tape library, providing customers with a comprehensive backup and recovery system. John Sorensen, vice president of manufacturing at StorServer, highlighted the benefits of TSM technology for incremental backups and disaster recovery planning.
For small business clients interested in implementing a disaster recovery program, the Y-series is worth considering. Hoffman emphasized the value of TSM’s Disaster Recovery Manager in creating customized plans for customers.
The Y-series appliances are available at different price points starting at $12,900 and are sold exclusively through solution providers. Partners can receive margins of up to 35 percent on the integrated solution and have access to online quoting tools from StorServer.
While implementation is currently handled by StorServer, the company is looking to certify partners who undergo training and have previous experience with TSM. Overall, the Y-series offers a convenient and cost-effective solution for businesses looking to enhance their data backup and recovery capabilities.
