SysGroup, a managed service player, has released its half-year results, revealing a mixed picture but also some promising developments for the company. Revenues for the six months ending on September 30th declined by $3 year-on-year to £10.96m, while pre-tax profits stood at £0.99m. However, there was an 8% improvement in managed services revenues, which now account for 84% of the firm’s total business.
During this period, SysGroup also experienced some management changes, including the appointment of Heejae Chae as executive chair and Paul Edwards as the new non-executive director. The company has been investing in its SysCloud infrastructure, particularly in the hardware supporting it. Additionally, SysGroup has embarked on a fresh strategy to deliver more artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) solutions, with the establishment of an engineering team to support this ambition.
Chae emphasized the areas where the company is investing in future growth, stating that SysGroup aims to become the go-to end-to-end data solution provider for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) venturing into their AI/ML journey. He highlighted the significant market gap where SMBs are eager to adopt AI/ML but often lack a clear strategy or implementation path. SysGroup aims to fill this demand by supporting SMBs in developing an AI/ML strategy and transitioning from their current platform.
SysGroup’s conviction that AI and ML will be areas for growth in the second half of the year and beyond is supported by the moves made during H1. The company has made significant investments in technology and people, recruiting a team of ML engineers from industry leaders such as AWS, JP Morgan, Validus, and McLaren. The senior management team has also been strengthened to support this journey. Chae highlighted the growing revenues from managed services, which provide a solid base for expansion.
Chae expressed his excitement about the potential of what SysGroup is building and the unexploited market opportunity that lies ahead. The company is reinforcing a culture of customer focus, outstanding service, innovation, entrepreneurialism, and high performance throughout the organization. Although there may be a marginal impact on overall bottom-line performance in the short term due to investment, Chae is optimistic about driving revenue growth in future financial years.
