A recent roundtable, hosted by the Information Technology Professionals South Africa (IITPSA) and attended by CIOs and IT leaders, highlighted the growing pressure on organizations to maintain “business as usual” during prolonged power outages.
According to the roundtable, only 34% of the CIOs and IT leaders in attendance reported having the necessary business continuity crisis plan, redundant connectivity, and backup power reserves to handle a complete grid failure or outage lasting a week or longer. 38% said they could function through outages of up to six hours, 7% could manage outages of up to 24 hours, and 21% admitted to having no backup power or crisis plan.
This data clearly indicates the crucial role that vendors and their channel partners play in equipping organizations with the technology needed to sustain operations during extended power outages. The availability of these solutions has become paramount.
Addressing the challenge
UPSs (Uninterruptible Power Supplies) are well-known for their ability to provide power stability and maintain consistent voltage levels during electrical supply disruptions. They serve as the first line of defense against an unstable grid.
In addition to UPSs, automatic transfer switches and power distribution units (PDUs) are also essential components of continuous power provision.
Schneider Electric’s approach to ensuring stability and continuous power is deeply rooted in its channel model. The company operates through three primary channels, each catering to specific market segments:
- The distribution channel focuses on transactional business, serving resellers that target small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs). These partners ensure that even the smallest IT setups have access to reliable power protection.
- The medium-sized channel works with medium to large enterprises (MLEs), facilitating the smooth transition of Schneider Electric’s Secure Power solutions to this crucial market segment.
- The enterprise channel deals directly with larger global corporations, forging relationships to meet their unique requirements.
Furthermore, Schneider Electric recognizes the importance of eCommerce in channel partners’ go-to-market strategies and continues to invest in this space to enhance its value proposition.
To strengthen its channel model, Schneider Electric has introduced a global partner program that includes various benefits such as marketing support, financial incentives, and dedicated account managers. This program aims to empower partners of all sizes, from small businesses to global corporations.
In conclusion, Schneider Electric believes that its Secure Power offerings go beyond being mere devices. They provide the guarantee of uninterrupted power in a world where electrical devices are essential for businesses and individuals. The company’s robust channel model ensures that continuous power solutions reach every corner of the market.
