Carragher: Alonso Could Follow in Klopp’s Footsteps at Liverpool
Jamie Carragher has drawn parallels between Xabi Alonso’s managerial career and those of Jose Mourinho and Jurgen Klopp, suggesting that the former Liverpool player could succeed Klopp as the manager of the club.
Alonso, who spent five successful years as a player at Anfield, has been making waves as the manager of Bayer Leverkusen. Under his guidance, Leverkusen is on track to win their first-ever Bundesliga title, having recently defeated title rivals Bayern Munich 3-0 to extend their unbeaten run to 31 games across all competitions.
Carragher believes that Alonso’s impressive achievements at Leverkusen resemble the underdog successes of Mourinho at FC Porto and Klopp at Borussia Dortmund before they earned their big breaks in European football.
“There’s a great chance he will become the next Liverpool manager, he seems the standout favourite. When you think of the great managers and where they start, a lot of them do something pretty remarkable at maybe a lower level,” Carragher commented during Monday Night Football.
Reflecting on Alonso’s potential appointment, Carragher expressed curiosity about his managerial style and how it would differ from Klopp’s approach. He emphasized the importance of observing how Alonso would shape the team if he joins the Premier League next season.
