Huawei Introduces Three Cutting-Edge Data Storage Solutions for the Age of AI

BARCELONA, Spain, Feb. 29, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — The Huawei Product and Solution Launch wowed attendees at MWC Barcelona 2024. Dr. Peter Zhou, President of Huawei IT Product Line, unveiled three cutting-edge solutions aimed at assisting carriers worldwide in constructing top-notch data infrastructure in the AI era: AI data lake solution, all-scenario data protection solution, and DCS full-stack data center solution.

The rapid growth of large AI models is unlocking the value of data assets and ushering in a new era of data awakening. Two key challenges in data infrastructure construction in the AI era have emerged. Firstly, to extract insights from data, disparate data sources must be consolidated in AI data factories to extract value from the data, necessitating high data mobility. Secondly, data assetization is on the rise, with annotated AI data and model data now being retained for over three years on average, and some valuable corpus data requiring permanent storage.

To tackle these challenges, Huawei has introduced a range of innovative storage products and solutions to assist carriers in building leading data infrastructure in the AI era.

  • AI data lake solution for transforming mass data into valuable assets: This solution comprises Data Management Engine (DME), a comprehensive knowledge generation tool chain (eDataMate), data fabric, and AI storage solutions OceanStor A800 and OceanStor A310. It enables global visibility, management, and availability of AI training data, enhancing data collection, preprocessing, and training efficiency. Notably, OceanStor A800, a next-generation high-performance NAS storage solution, serves as a robust AI storage foundation with capabilities such as a separation architecture for data and control planes, the OceanFS high-performance parallel file system, flexible bidirectional expansion, and more, all geared towards supporting real-time hyper-cluster scheduling.
  • All-scenario data protection solution for enhancing the resilience of data assets through data production, backup, and archiving: This solution employs two layers of collaborative deployment. The first layer involves production-backup collaboration, enabling faster backup of massive numbers of small files by 90% compared to traditional solutions. It also supports real-time native-format data analytics. The second layer is backup-archive collaboration, with a post-deduplication tiering feature that reduces bandwidth consumption by 80%. Additionally, Huawei introduced the OceanProtect E8000 and X9000 data backup appliance solutions and the next-generation OceanStor Arctic magneto-electric storage solution designed for warm and cold data at the event. The magneto-electric storage solution is expected to reduce TCO by 20% compared to tapes and power consumption by 90% compared to HDDs.
  • DCS full-stack data center solution for aiding carriers in achieving higher IT service efficiency and agility: This comprehensive solution, based on virtualization and containers, encompasses data collection, storage, computing, management, and usage, offering comprehensive infrastructure as a service (IaaS) and platform as a service (PaaS).
