Carl Belford, director of Belford Brothers Skip Hire, has expressed his frustration over the ongoing flooding issues on Chemical Lane in Longport. According to Belford, the flooding has been a persistent problem for the past 15 years and is now impacting his business.

Belford stated that the situation has been causing him stress and affecting his sleep due to the negative impact it is having on his company. He mentioned that the flooding is making it nearly impossible for his business to operate, as it is causing damage to vehicles and preventing customers from reaching him.

Staffordshire County Council has acknowledged the issue and assured that they are working towards finding a permanent solution. Network Rail is also collaborating with the council to address the problem, as the railway line runs alongside Chemical Lane.

Phillip Moore, who runs Mores Metals scrapyard, also shared his concerns about the flooding. He explained that the flooded road deters lorries from entering the site to collect metal, as drivers fear getting punctures from presumed hidden metal under the puddles.

Despite the challenges, both businesses are hopeful for a resolution. Staffordshire County Council has implemented a temporary solution to pump excess water from the road while working on a more permanent fix. Network Rail has confirmed that there are no drainage issues under the railway but are addressing blockages in a local stream that contribute to the flooding.

Overall, the community is rallying together to find a solution and alleviate the impact of the flooding on local businesses and residents.
