Shares of computing company Super Micro Computer (NASDAQ: SMCI) saw a remarkable 188.2% gain in the first half of 2024, according to data from S&P Global Market Intelligence. By March, the stock had surged over 300% year to date, surpassing its first-half performance.
Super Micro Computer’s management provided a positive business update on Jan. 18, followed by a strong financial report for its fiscal second quarter on Jan. 29. The company exceeded expectations with net sales of $3.65 billion in Q2, up 103% year over year.
The surge in sales and profitability led S&P Global to add Super Micro Computer to the S&P 500 on March 1, further boosting the stock. However, the rapid growth also brought challenges, including cash-flow issues that prompted a secondary stock offering.
Looking ahead, Super Micro Computer expects net sales of at least $14.7 billion for the year, reflecting continued demand for its products. With new cash infusion, the company believes it is just getting started in its growth trajectory.
