The daughter of the man accused of letting 51 men rape his unconscious wife fled court today after shocking revelations were made during the trial in Avignon, France. Caroline Darian, alongside her mother and siblings, had to be helped from the courtroom as details emerged that her father had also photographed her while she was drugged.
Police discovered a folder on Dominique Pelicot’s computer labeled ‘My Daughter Naked’, prompting Caroline to leave the courtroom. It was revealed that Pelicot had taken photos of his daughter while she was unconscious, similar to what he did to his wife, Gisele, who was sexually assaulted by 72 strangers over a decade.
Caroline has written a book about the case and the devastating impact it had on their family. The trial has identified 51 men who are accused of aggravated rape, with some pleading guilty and others denying the charges. Pelicot admitted to many of the crimes but claimed that the other men were aware of Gisele being drugged before assaulting her.
The trial, which began in Avignon, has shed light on the horrific acts committed by Pelicot and the other defendants. Gisele’s bravery in facing her abusers in court has been commended, as she waived her right to anonymity to seek justice. The trial is set to continue until December 20, with Pelicot facing additional charges of murder and rape from previous incidents.
