Former Disney World Employee's Dangerous Hack that Could Have Put Guests at RiskA former Disney World employee has been accused of tampering with menu software in a dangerous manner. Michael Scheuer allegedly altered allergen information on the resort’s menus to falsely indicate that items were peanut-free, according to a criminal complaint. While some changes were harmless, others posed a threat to public health and safety.

Scheuer, who was the Menu Production Manager at Disney, was fired for misconduct in June. The complaint states that he accessed the menu system from a personal device after being terminated and made unauthorized changes. He even hacked into the servers of the software company when his credentials no longer worked.

Disney had to take the menu system offline for a period of time to fix the changes Scheuer made. Despite his denial of any wrongdoing, FBI agents searched Scheuer’s home and seized computers. His lawyer claims that no one was harmed by his actions and looks forward to presenting his side of the story.

This incident comes after a tragic event in 2023 where an NYU doctor died at a Disney restaurant due to a nut allergy. Her family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Disney, alleging negligence in handling food allergies. Disney attempted to dismiss the lawsuit through arbitration, but the case continues to unfold.
