T-Mobile’s latest offering includes free data passes for emergencies
T-Mobile has introduced upgraded Internet Backup plans for both home and small businesses, providing users with a dependable and cost-effective 5G network in case of a primary network outage.
Ironically, this announcement coincided with the company’s largest outage of 2024, affecting users across various regions in the United States.
The outage lasted nearly five hours, underscoring the necessity for a reliable backup solution.
According to T-Mobile, the Home and Small Business Internet Backup plans offer users enhanced tools to stay connected during ISP outages. These plans are designed to complement traditional cable or fiber internet services, not replace them.
Each plan includes 130GB of 5G data per month, ample for keeping most households or small businesses online for up to seven days during disruptions. Additionally, users will receive three free 130GB data passes per year to use during extended outages.
Setting up the T-Mobile 5G gateway takes less than 15 minutes, ensuring a swift transition to backup connectivity when primary services fail. These plans come with no hidden fees, meaning the 5G gateway is provided at no extra cost.
To further assist customers during blackouts, T-Mobile is offering the Nimble Champ Pro 20k 65W portable power station at a discounted price of $49.99 for new customers.
The November outage shed light on the vulnerabilities even major telecom providers face. While T-Mobile has touted its 5G network as reliable, this incident served as a reminder of potential failures. It also emphasized the importance of internet access in a time where remote work, virtual learning, and online business operations are commonplace.
