D-Wave makes first commercial sale of Advantage quantum computerQuantum computing company D-Wave has achieved a major milestone with the first commercial sale of its Advantage system. The exciting news was revealed alongside the company’s impressive Q4 2024 financial results, which boasted bookings of at least $18 million for the quarter.

While the customer who purchased the quantum computer remains unnamed, the sale undoubtedly played a significant role in D-Wave’s remarkable 500 percent year-on-year increase in bookings. In a statement, D-Wave highlighted the significance of this sale, describing it as a “significant expansion” to the company’s revenue model and a step towards offering on-premise system sales.

Dr. Alan Baratz, CEO of D-Wave, expressed confidence in the growing recognition of the value and usefulness of D-Wave’s quantum systems. Founded in 1999, the Vancouver-based company is known for its ‘full-stack’ approach to quantum computing and introduced its powerful 5,000 qubit Advantage system in 2020.

In addition to this milestone sale, D-Wave has been making strides in enhancing its services. In October 2024, the company introduced service-level agreements tailored for its Leap quantum cloud service customers, promising impressive uptime and availability with sub-second solve times even under heavy usage.

Furthermore, D-Wave recently regained compliance with the NYSE, overcoming previous warnings about share price compliance. This achievement marks another positive development for the pioneering quantum computing firm.
