New York to Implement Stricter Cybersecurity Regulations for Hospitals
New York is set to enhance its oversight of hospital cybersecurity practices, as per a review of draft rules by The Wall Street Journal. These regulations will necessitate hospitals to develop incident response plans, implement secure software design practices for in-house applications, and deploy security technologies like multifactor identification, among other preventive measures.
The proposed rules are in line with federal regulations and come in the wake of a series of cyberattacks on New York hospitals over the past year. These attacks have prompted the need for stronger cybersecurity measures to safeguard patient data and ensure uninterrupted healthcare services.
The draft guidance is scheduled to be released on November 13 and will be open for a 60-day public comment period. This allows stakeholders and the public to provide input and suggestions before the regulations are finalized.
