British Airways had to cancel a number of flights on Friday due to computer issues, causing chaos for thousands of travelers at the beginning of a busy holiday weekend. The majority of the 42 flights affected were short-haul routes to and from Heathrow, Europe’s busiest airport. The computer problems on Thursday meant that planes and crew were out of position on Friday, which was set to be the busiest day for air travel in the UK since before the pandemic. Some passengers were also delayed as they were unable to check in online. “We’re aware of a technical issue, which we have been working hard to fix,” said the airline on its website. With a three-day weekend and a week-long school holiday starting, travel is expected to be particularly hectic over the next few days.
