Toyota Shuts Down Vehicle Assembly Lines in Japan Due to Computer System Issue
In an unexpected turn of events, all 28 vehicle assembly lines at Toyota’s 14 auto plants in Japan came to a halt on Tuesday. The reason behind this shutdown is a problem in the company’s computer system that handles incoming auto parts.
Although Toyota denies any cyberattack as the cause, spokeswoman Sawako Takeda stated that the investigation is still ongoing to determine the exact root of the issue. As of now, it remains uncertain when the assembly lines will resume their operations.
Toyota has chosen to remain tight-lipped about which specific models might be affected by this shutdown. This incident follows a series of production setbacks caused by a shortage of computer chips and other auto parts in Asian countries due to COVID-19 related restrictions.
Fortunately, the chip shortage had recently started to ease for Japan’s leading automaker, which produces popular vehicles such as the Camry sedan, Prius hybrid, and the luxurious Lexus brand.
