Money expert Martin Lewis apologizes for missing scheduled appearance on ITV News

Martin Lewis, renowned money expert and founder of MoneySavingExpert.com, took to Twitter to apologize after he was unable to make a scheduled appearance on ITV News. Prior to the broadcast, Lewis informed his followers that he was experiencing technical difficulties with his computer. He tweeted, “Aaargh meant to be doing it lunchtime news on Zoom but my computer just decided to do an update… I’m on 27% and it’s going so slowly…” Unfortunately, he was forced to abandon the appearance altogether.

Lewis then turned to Twitter to explain the situation to his 2.5 million followers. He expressed his frustration, stating, “Missed it. Very frustrating. For those saying ‘get a back up’ this is my back up normally I do interviews via a bespoke broadcast system called Globelynx that I have. Sadly we couldn’t use that today so went by Zoom, and then my computer needed to ‘restart and update. V v frustrating.”

Representatives for Martin Lewis have been contacted by Express.co.uk for further comment on the incident.

Many of Lewis’s followers offered advice in the comments section, although it came too late to salvage the situation. One follower suggested using a tablet as an alternative, while another recommended having a backup computer with a different operating system. Some even proposed turning off auto-updates to avoid unexpected interruptions.

This incident follows Lewis’s recent apology for using a “terrible” choice of phrase on his ITV show, The Martin Lewis Money Show. During the show, he referred to “adoptive children or your children” when discussing Christmas expenses. Realizing that his words may have offended some viewers, he took to Twitter to clarify his statement. He admitted, “Just realized in the heat of live show I said ‘adoptive children r your children’ – terrible phrasing, sorry.” Lewis, who has an 11-year-old daughter named Sapphire, emphasized that adopted children are indeed considered as one’s own. He also highlighted the importance of informing parents of adopted children between the ages of 12 and 21 about the potential £1,000 Child Trust Fund they may possess.
