Lineker Criticizes Klopp’s Comments

Gary Lineker has expressed his disapproval of Jurgen Klopp’s outburst towards an Amazon Prime broadcaster following Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Sheffield United, describing it as “really weird”.

After Virgil van Dijk and Dominik Szoboszlai secured the win at Bramall Lane, the Reds manager found himself provoked by presenter Marcus Buckland, who jokingly referred to Crystal Palace’s 12:30pm kick-off as Klopp’s “favorite” time.

Klopp retaliated against Buckland, labeling him as “disrespectful” and claiming that he lacks an understanding of football.

The post-match interview quickly gained attention online, with fans and pundits divided on whether Klopp was justified in his response to Buckland’s comments.

However, Lineker believes that Klopp’s reaction was excessive and that Buckland had done nothing wrong with his “really, really mild joke”.

During an episode of the Rest is Football podcast, Lineker, the former Everton, Leicester City, and England forward, stated:

“Well, Pep [Guardiola] wasn’t the only manager to get annoyed. Jurgen Klopp last night [Wednesday], at the end of the game, dismissed the presenter as arrogant and clueless simply because he made a lighthearted remark about Klopp’s dislike for a 12:30pm kick-off!

“And I must say, I don’t think Buckland did anything inappropriate there. It seems Klopp was just in a bad mood about something, and it was quite peculiar.

“He questioned, ‘How could you make a joke about something like that?’ I mean, seriously? A 12:30pm kick-off? It’s not worth getting so worked up about, especially considering the current global issues. But anyway, I understand that managers are under immense pressure.”
