A young computer whiz in London is receiving a wave of support from his community as he pursues his passion for fixing discarded computers. Arlie Hamm, 10, has been tinkering with software since he was six, but recently delved into hardware repairs to prevent computers from becoming e-waste and donate them to those in need.
With the help of his father, Jeffrey, Arlie put out a call for old computers to repair on social media, and the response has been overwhelming. One generous donation came from the Home Hardware Building Centre, where owner Chuck Bergeron handed over nine PCs to Arlie to support his mission.
Arlie has already worked with various operating systems and encountered common issues like hard drive failures, but he finds the process of repairing computers surprisingly easy once you understand the basics. His ultimate goal is to continue refurbishing computers and distributing them to those who can benefit from them.
The father-son duo has set up a Facebook page to collect donations and ensure that no computer goes to waste. Arlie hopes to inspire others to explore their love for computers and follow their passions just like he has.
