Microscope: A Solution for Users Seeking Backup Alternatives

Microscope: A Solution for Users Seeking Backup AlternativesThe channel has a new opportunity to help customers and boost revenue, as Kaseya adds backup and recovery to its offerings. According to the findings in the “State of backup and recovery report 2025: Navigating the future of data protection,” many users are in need of support from the channel.

While 40% of customers feel confident in their ability to back up and restore, a third admit to struggling. Frank DeBenedetto, GTM general manager, MSP Suite at Kaseya, highlighted the challenges in today’s cyber landscape, emphasizing the importance of testing systems repeatedly.

Despite the high likelihood of downtime, only a small percentage of users regularly test backups, and even fewer focus on recovery. The survey revealed varying responses on recovery times, with some completely unsure of how long it would take to get back up and running.

More than half of businesses surveyed plan to switch their primary backup solution, presenting an opportunity for channel partners. However, partners may face obstacles such as price and budget constraints when pitching alternatives.

Kaseya also found that customers struggle to find the right cloud service provider and deal with complexities in managing multiple backup tools. MSPs can assist by implementing best practices, such as prioritizing security when switching backup solutions and utilizing cloud technologies and automated testing tools.

Developing clear backup policies, regular testing, and ensuring security throughout the process are crucial steps MSPs can help customers take. Backup and recovery align with other technologies the channel is encouraged to promote, including visibility solutions that provide insight into infrastructure and data location.
